Along with the events of our annual elections, we are excited to be joined by Northrim Bank Executive Vice President Mark Edwards and “The Economic State of the Last Frontier” where he will touch on topics including production shifts in the Alaska Economy, the affects of tariffs and DOGE on Alaska, interest rate projections, the Nome Project, and the general economic outlook of our great state.

Speaker Bio:

Mark Edwards is an Executive Vice President at Northrim Bank where he has worked for 18 years.  He serves as the Chief Credit Officer and Bank Economist.  

Mark was born in Alaska and is a graduate of East Anchorage High School.  He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Virginia. 

After college he worked as a Loan Officer for the National Bank of Alaska and completed their management training program.

He later received a Masters Degree with Distinguished Honors in International Business from the Thunderbird, School of Global Management in Arizona.  He has lived, worked and studied in Spain and Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.  

Mark was previously the State's Economist in the Department of Commerce.  Later he became the Director of the Office of Economic Development, where he worked on diverse issues including fishing, mining, tourism and international exports.  

He also worked as an Economist and Natural Gas Pipeline Coordinator for the Department of Revenue, focusing on petroleum tax issues, the state’s long term fiscal plan and developing the natural gas pipeline.

He has worked part-time as an adjunct professor of economics at Alaska Pacific University.
